Awesome! but I think you can add a setup for graphics. My Geforce 820m struggles a lot with this T_T

Wow! this is really good, Ima have to make a youtube video on it if you don't mind!

When will you do the next levels?

When will you do the next levels?

Hi !
Could you release a linux version ? Unreal Engine 4 supports it.

Thanks !

I have a Steam Controller; Jumping, Pausing & moving all work which I am amazed. Now, attacking does not work on the Steam Controller. I'm using the Steam Controller for everything but then to use my Whip, I have to press K on my keyboard. Is there a way to program/reconfigure the buttons from keyboard to the Steam Controller? I don't see any options. Any help with this?

"JoytoKey" and "Xpadder" allow you to map any Keyboard buttond and even Mouse movement to a Gamepad

Take my money.

simply go to this page from your web browser

https://dejawolf.itch.io/castlevania-1-remake

and download the 32bit and thats it

I cant unpack the firts part. My rar opener says it cant be opened because it could be damaged

idk what's wrong, but it doesn't install. i tried part 1 & 2. the install button never rurns to play.

Why do you not simply rename this game and its characters to something else that's not copyrighted?

Easy way to turn a passion into a profit. Listen to this advice.

Hi dejawolf, I want to try this game but I have download issues with the rar files. I'm not sure if I have a network problem since I could download other files. I'm wondering if you have like a cloud file for this one. Thanks in Advance. :)

The game looks awesome. And at least as far as im concerned, Konami can go suck a bag of d**ks. Keep up the great work.

This game is super impressive! Huge Castlevania fan here so I'm really sad to read about the C&D. I too have worked on a fan remake that the got the old C&D treatment. Really sucks. Glad to read that Konami sees that there's at least a conversation to be had there though. I hope your talks go better than mine did. Regardless though, you've done something really impressive here. Quite a feat.

I have a error: Out of video memory trying to allocate a rendering rosource. Make sure your video card has the minimum required memory, try lowering the resolution and/or closing other applications that are running. Exiting...

I have: windows 7, intel core i5, 64 bit,

Please help

what's your video card/graphics card?

Intel(R) HD Graphics Family

intel HD is far from good enough to run it properly.

I updated the drivers and it works but jams.

You can also add a start-up screen.

I can not download, access denied

that's strange, just checked, and there was no issue for me.

If you obtain something from Jay, please write this guy a message: Shadow Moses

His project is already cancelled because of Konami.

yeah, well Jay actually mentioned shadow moses in our talk.

(1 edit)

Airam Hernández (Shadow Moses) changed his project and created a "museum" (download on his twitter account). It seems museums are acceptable. I have no idea what kind of license he obtained.

An alternative could be a "clone": Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (a clone from VIPs), 20XX (Mega Man X clone), Freedom Planet (a modern Sonic the Hedgehog clone), ... A clone is legally salable and you don't need a license. Just don't be too obvious, if you want to avoid new problems.

A C&D? Finally. LOL. Who didn't see that coming?!

Those mofos at Konami won't either make a decent remake themselves, nor they'll let anyone do the job for them - for FREE!

You weren't making any profit off this so what the heck is their problem?!

Please come up with a way to continue to work on this. Don't stop. This game must be completed!

You can go to Gamejolt. There are other games on there too that are properties of some publishers, but they are still being modded or remade.

Amazing this is the remake I have always wanted for my all time favorite game. This is gorgeous! Konami should be funding you since they don't care about taking the time for a quality remake that fans can get behind. We need a petition!

I wish I could play it on a mac :( Nice idea Man!. Also good luck with the official licence from Konami!

Dude I really want to pick your brain on this

Hello, I am a Spanish girl and just started youtube channel. I've heard that you've created this game and I thought my channel upload your project to support you. I have already downloaded it and I really want to try it. You've done a good job Betygammer

Great! I want it for android ^_^

(+1)

it'll probably melt your android :P

LOVE IT. The 1.5 sec. lag between keypress and action is maddening, but good lord is it goregeous.

hmm, 1.5 second lag?

Yep. Walking/whipping seems fine, but jumping has at least a second of lag between press and action. The rest of the game runs flawlessly.

Same question although for Twitch

i didn't say anything when the 3 other people posted videos here, why would i suddenly be against it now?

go ahead, make as many videos as you like, it's free exposure for me.

I have a question. Do you plan to remake other Castelvania Games for the NES or the SNES, after you finished programming this remake? I'd love to see a Super Castlevania IV Remake.

yeah i'd love to do a super CIV remake, but it'll be years before i'm done with this one so.

The music volume is WAY too loud. Also, I would love to be able to move while attacking. And how do I walk up on stairs???

(+1)

there wasn't any move while attacking in the original, so none in this version either.

press W to move up stairs.

amazing!

Join Dracula for a crib tour and, of course, watch him whip, watch him neigh neigh.

HI,

I am having an issue with the game, it runs but the sound is all choppy and the game runs super slow. I am using an Alienware M14x with Windows7 64, I have 12Gb Ram and I7 3820 running at 2.70Ghz. Also it doesn't want to go fullscreen and operates in a window which is by my guess 800x600 or slightly higher. I have downloaded both 32 and 64 versions and both behave the same, I have also tried running in administrator or xp compatibility. I hope there is an easy fix or something I'm doing wrong as I really want to play it.

yeah it's only set to run in windowed mode currently. make sure there is nothing overlaying the window like popup dialogs and such,

or it'll stutter. i'll look into a fullscreen mode.

Hi Wolf thanks for getting back to me, there is no overlay or pop-up and I have alt tabbed to check it keeps stuttering. I don't know why would it have something to do with CPU compatibility?

(1 edit)

well, i looked at the specs of the alienware M14x, and the GT-555M graphics card might not be powerful enough. so i'll probably have to dial back a few things here and there some more to get smooth framerates. for comparison, GTX-860M is what i have on my lenovo.

http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-860M-vs-GeForce-GT-555M

Hi,

I have the GT-650M with 2GB DDR dedicated, but using 5GB shared. It can handle most games I have including Skyrim and Fallout4. I thought It would have been sufficient for the unreal engine. But maybe not. Anyhow..... If you can change any gfx settings by console or script please let me know.

I can tell you what's likely going on; check to make sure that your nVidia Control Panel has the .exe listed in it, otherwise it's probably trying to use the Intel chip, which is woefully underpowered. Right click on the nVidia Control Panel, then go to "Manage 3D Settings" then click the Program Settings tab. Navigate to the .EXE, select it, and you should be set.

That said, even if you CAN run Skyrim/Fallout 4 on a 650m you likely shouldn't. I had the M17x prior to my current machine, and found that even on Med., Dragon Age Inquisition would make it chug. Some Unity games also made it cry. As they get more "shiny" the 650m will be unable to play.

fun? sounded like you were about to strangle someone because of all the bugs and framerate issues.

btw i found and fixed the "stuck in wall" bug, it was the camera getting stuck and refusing to move because there was 2 overlapping camerasetters. going to do code that will prevent the bats from moving through walls, and i think the candles might be causing FPS issues as well, although i don't have a bad enough computer to test this on. also the slow-ass time countdown is because i forgot to multiply the counter with delta time.

hahaha but I still had fun man, but that boss was a pain lol dam that big ass bat!!!

(1 edit)

heheh, well the bat is the easiest boss in the original game, later bosses like frankenstein on level 4 and the grim reaper are insanely hard. also i might have to fine tune the batboss a bit though, could be he's swooping a bit too fast currently.

and i'll probably expand the hitbox of the tiny bats, currently they're dodging your whip pretty gracefully.

and that ghoul wandering around in the darkness in the brick area is a bug as well. i need to put in code that despawns enemies once you reach certain areas. the original really gets hard on level 3 though, with little "fleamen/hunchbacks" causing quite some pain.

I know the old game didn't have a save feature, but will you be adding one to yours? Also if that's the easiest boss I'm going to need Jesus for the others haha but don't make it to easy now, I was still able to kill him with the right weapon. Keep up the great job man.

(1 edit)

i'm thinking of having a save system that's at least in the spirit of the old game, where it'll save what level you're on. that way you don't have to leave your computer on to retry that level giving you pain.

Can you compile this for linux?

Compiling For Linux

sort of mired in getting it to work properly on windoze. maybe after i finish level 1 and 2 and they work flawlessly.

I unzipped the file but it still won't let me play it. It shows up as a .rar file. Is there a program I need to download to play it?

no you did not unzip the file. you need to download winrar, a file compression program.

from here: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

install that, then unzip the file.

i guess i could just use winzip, since it's implemented in windows by default, but then the download size will be an extra 100mb

7-Zip ???
